At the start of this meeting, Dr. Mohammad Shah Omid, Vice-President of Student Affairs at this university, expressed his satisfaction with the established relations with ICT Park, introduced Kateb University briefly, and considered the mutual cooperation between Kateb University and Information and Communication Technology Park a fundamental step for modernizing Kateb University with new technology.
Dr. Abbas Ghanbari Baghestan, Advisor for ICT Park Communication and International Affairs, pointed out the significance of Iran's ICT Park's relations with Afghanistan as a neighboring country regarding the considerable commonalities between the two countries and explained about Park's activities concerning content production, IoT technology, propulsion projects, ICT Park's technology companies, and the role of using ICT in food security.
Dr. Ghanbari Baghestan also explained the significance of digital content production in developing entrepreneurship in Afghanistan and especially at Kateb University: "Establishing digital content production studios can provide students with practical knowledge while creating new job opportunities in Afghanistan," he said.
Dr. Davoud Forutan, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Sciences, introduced this faculty, explained problems and obstacles which students of the Faculty face, and asked for more information regarding the Javaneh Grant that is provided by ICT Park's Digital Economy Development Network.
Lastly, Head of Research at Kateb University and Dean of Engineering Faculty of this university raised relevant questions regarding ICT Park's research activities, Smart Greenhouse and Wastewater Treatment House, demanding ICT Park's advice on constructing a university Park at Kateb University.
Dr. Ghanbari Baghestan explained the process of setting up a science and technology Park: "Considering that so far, Katab University has not ever had a science and technology Park, establishing a science and technology Park right away may not appear to be a suitable plan; hence, for the time being, we won't recommend it," he said.
“It is advisable to start with a technology center. This center will be capable of developing technology products, leading these products to the growth stage and then commercializing them. In case you manage to have a few successful experiences in this field, soon the relevant market or industry agencies will notice your progress and will come forward to invest in your new ideas in technology and will also support you for establishing a technology area at your university," he added.
Dr. Ghanbari Baghestan also pointed out the possibility of multilateral cooperation between ICT Park and Kateb University: "Considering that World Bank, United Nations and UNESCO tend to cooperate in different fields concerning Afghanistan’s progress, this undertaking can proceed as multilateral cooperation. For instance, if Kateb University intends to set up an innovation center in Afghanistan, the UN can provide the financial costs of this center, and ICT Park can provide the required scientific and logistical support," he mentioned.
With Kateb University's Board of Directors confirming Dr. Ghanbari Baghestan's words and welcoming ICT Park's interest in sharing its achievements with Afghanistan, it was finally decided that the practical activities between Kateb University and ICT Park will proceed by holding further meetings.
